Sponsored Links: The Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto on Tuesday, 6th June, 2017 inaugurated its reconstituted Governing Council at the Senate Chamber of the Ahmadu Bello House. The new Chairman of the Council, Rtd. Hon. Justice Pearl Enejere, an appointee of the President Muhammad Buhari, while delivering her inaugural address expressed delight over the honour and privilege bestowed on her as the Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the newly constituted governing council of the University. She thereafter registered her sincere gratitude to the President, on behalf of the entire members of the Council, for appointing them into policy making positions for the University. “The appointment will enable us contribute our quota in the development of this institution of higher learning and, by extension, the development of education in this great country, Nigeria. We pledge to do our best, and we undertake to justify the confidence reposed on us”, she stated. While she wished the President quick recovery from his ailment, she prayed that God Almighty supports and gives President Muhammad Buhari the needed wisdom to lead and move the country, Nigeria to greater heights. Furthermore, Enejere described the challenges ahead as formidable and daunting, owing to the catalogue of problems besetting higher education in Nigeria today, she however, charged all the Council members to be supportive and collaborative so as to achieve a rancor-free relationship while moving the progressive train of UDUS to greatness. “…if we work as a team, we will be able to chart a roadmap that will enable us forge ahead to make this University among the best in the world. Judging from the personal qualities of the members, for having distinguished themselves in various fields of human endeavour, one can say that the University is lucky to be entrusted in safe hands”, she added. The Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Sulaiman Khalid, while responding to the address of the Pro-chancellor urged Council members to avoid undue discrimination of internal and external members. “You are here to help chart out the best course to achieving greatness in the University. You are the conscience of the University, I hereby urge all Council members to avoid the distinction of internal and external members, as you are all Council members”, he posited. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru finally congratulated all members of the Council and pledged maximum cooperation for the activities of the Council.
