University of Ibadan registration is the process through which newly admitted students formally complete their academic and administrative enrolment for their programmes.

Registration comes after important admission stages such as admission, acceptance fee payment, school fees and clearance. It is different from clearance because clearance focuses mainly on the verification of admission credentials, while registration confirms the student’s enrolment and academic participation.

For the 2025/2026 session, the University of Ibadan academic calendar scheduled online registration for new students to commence on January 19, 2026. The university later published specific guidelines covering levy payments and course registration for fresh students.

For the 2026/2027 session, newly admitted students should follow the registration schedule and instructions that will be announced by the university.

Who Needs to Complete UI Registration?

Newly admitted undergraduate students of the University of Ibadan are expected to complete the registration requirements applicable to their programmes.

Registration is important because admission alone does not complete every academic requirement. Students must follow the university’s instructions for completing their enrolment, paying applicable charges and registering their courses.

Returning students also complete registration each academic session, but the procedure and timing may differ from those for fresh students.

This article focuses mainly on UI registration for newly admitted undergraduate students.

University of Ibadan Registration Requirements

The exact requirements for 2026/2027 will be determined by the university’s official registration instructions.

However, the latest UI fresh-student registration guideline provides a useful indication of the process.

Students should generally be prepared to have:

  • Confirmed admission.
  • Completed required admission clearance.
  • Appropriate student portal login details.
  • Required school or bundled fee payment.
  • Technology levy payment where applicable.
  • Utility levy payment where applicable.
  • Other programme-specific levies where applicable.
  • Required academic and personal information.
  • Approved courses for the student’s programme and level.
  • Evidence of required payments.
  • Registration forms or documents generated from the portal.

UI’s 2025/2026 fresh-student guideline stated that students should access the student portal and use the Fees section to view applicable charges. It also listed bundled fees or school fees, technology levy and utility levy among the applicable payments.

Students should not assume that the same fees or requirements will apply in 2026/2027.

How to Complete University of Ibadan Registration

The registration process should be completed through the channels specified by the University of Ibadan.

Step 1: Confirm Your Admission

Before starting registration, make sure your admission has been properly confirmed.

You should have completed the relevant admission and clearance requirements and received the documents or confirmation required by the university.

Step 2: Obtain Your Student Portal Details

New students are provided with information needed to access the university’s student portal.

UI has previously instructed new students to use their JAMB registration number on the university portal to access their matriculation number and personalised institutional email.

After receiving the appropriate login details, students can proceed to the student portal.

Step 3: Log Into the Student Portal

The University of Ibadan student portal is used for several student-related activities, including fee payments and course registration.

The latest fresh-student guideline states that students can log in using their institutional email or matriculation number. It also states that the initial password is the student’s surname in lowercase and that students are prompted to change the password after successful login.

Students should keep their new password secure and avoid sharing their login details with other people.

Step 4: Check Your Fees

After logging into the portal, check the Fees section to see the charges applicable to your student category.

UI’s published guideline instructs students to navigate to the Fees section and select the applicable payment option before proceeding to the payment platform.

Make sure the payment information is correct before completing any transaction.

Step 5: Complete Required Payments

Pay the charges required for your student category and programme through the approved payment channel.

The university’s previous guideline directed students to a payment platform where they could select available payment options.

Keep your payment receipts and transaction evidence because you may need them during registration or when resolving a payment issue.

Step 6: Proceed to Course Registration

After completing the required payment process, proceed to register the courses prescribed for your programme and level.

Course registration is an important part of student registration because it records the courses you are expected to take during the academic session.

Do not select courses randomly. Check the approved course structure for your programme and seek guidance from your department or level adviser where necessary.

Step 7: Review Your Course Registration

Carefully review the courses before submitting your registration.

Check course codes, course titles, units and any compulsory or required courses.

If you identify an error, correct it within the period allowed by the university.

UI’s 2025/2026 registration timetable provided a separate period for students to correct registration errors before the registration portal closed.

Step 8: Obtain Your Registration Record

After successfully completing course registration, save or print the relevant registration document generated by the portal.

Keep a copy for your personal records.

Your registration document may become useful when confirming your courses or resolving an issue with your department.

How to Register Courses at UI

Course registration is completed through the University of Ibadan student portal according to the university’s instructions.

The process generally involves logging into the portal, accessing the course registration section, selecting the approved courses for your level and programme, submitting the registration and obtaining the appropriate registration record.

Students should not register courses without checking their departmental requirements.

Your department may provide guidance concerning compulsory, elective and other programme-specific courses.

If you are uncertain about a course, speak with your level adviser or the appropriate departmental authority before submitting the registration.

UI Registration Portal Login Details

The University of Ibadan uses its student portal for important student activities.

The university’s current portal instructions state that students can use their institutional email or matriculation number as the username. The initial password is the student’s surname in lowercase, after which the student is prompted to create a new password.

New students should therefore pay attention to the login information provided by the university.

If you cannot access your account, use the password recovery option available on the portal or follow the university’s instructions for resolving login problems.

Do not give your password to another person claiming to help you register.

What Happens After Registration?

After completing registration, students should continue with the remaining activities required for the academic session.

These may include:

  • Course registration approval.
  • Orientation.
  • Matriculation.
  • Accommodation arrangements where applicable.
  • Academic activities.
  • Physical resumption.
  • Departmental activities.
  • Other university requirements.

The exact order depends on the academic calendar for the session.

For example, the 2025/2026 UI calendar placed online registration for new students before physical resumption, physical orientation and matriculation.

This means students should not wait until physical resumption before completing registration if the university has already opened the process.

Common UI Registration Problems

Students may encounter problems while completing registration.

Common issues include:

Incorrect Login Details

Entering the wrong username or password can prevent access to the portal.

Check your login details carefully before attempting to reset your password.

Payment Not Reflected

Sometimes a completed payment may not immediately appear on the student portal.

Keep your payment evidence and follow the university’s procedure for resolving payment issues.

Course Registration Error

A student may accidentally select an incorrect course or miss a required course.

Review your registration carefully and use the correction period provided by the university where applicable.

Portal Closure

Students who delay registration may face problems if the portal closes.

For 2025/2026, UI published specific registration periods and penalties for late registration. The university should be treated as the final authority for the 2026/2027 timetable and any applicable penalties.

Conclusion

University of Ibadan registration is an important step for newly admitted students because it completes key academic and administrative requirements after admission and clearance.

Students should prepare early, obtain their portal details, complete required payments and register their courses carefully. They should also keep copies of payment receipts and registration documents for future reference.

For the 2026/2027 academic session, students should rely on the latest instructions from the University of Ibadan for registration dates, payment requirements, course registration procedures and deadlines.

Completing registration on time will help newly admitted students move smoothly into the next stage of their university journey, including orientation, matriculation and resumption.
